Synopsis:
Since her childhood, Jessica (Lilly-Fleur Pointeaux), has suffered from tormenting nightmares. When her Grandmother passes away she reluctantly returns to her home village. The chilly relationship with her mother Catelyn (Catriona MacColl) and the fact that her Grandmogher is lying in vigil in the room next door doesn’t make things easier. During a dream Jessica meets her Grandmother who pleads for help and appears to be obsessed with the same looming tower that Jessica has been seeing in her dreams. To get deeper into her dreams and subconscious, Jessica drugs herself with chloroform with the intention to make it to the tower and expose it’s secrets. But the road there is guarded by the Cardinal, a menacing figure with a horsehead that won’t let anyone pass.

Romain Bassets debut film with amongst others Catriona MacColl from Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond, The House by the Cemetery and City of the Living Dead, and special effects by the French master David Scherer, is a visual orgy of metaphors, surreal horror and nightmarish visions. With a dazzling visual imagery and a dreamy narrative, Horsehead is an erotic, violent, frightening and poetic journey with an aura of Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, British Gothicism and French Avant-gardism.

Quotes:
” An explosion of colors and emotions” Twitchfilm
”Argento-esque expressionism” Scream Horror Magazine
