LEE 005 – PHILOSOPHY OF A KNIFE

PHILOSOPHY OF A KNIFE – 3 DISC LIMITED SPECIAL EDITION (2DVD’S + 1 CD)

POAK-PACKSHOT_webLast Exit Entertainment proudly bring Andrey Iskanov’s epic juggernaut of extreme cinema, Philosophy of a Knife, to European DVD for the first time with this limited edition, filled with exclusive bonus materials and footage never previously seen.

At the end of World War II the Russian Army enter Japanese-occupied Manchuria and discover Unit 731. A prisoner of war camp where they realize horrendous crimes have taken place when they find documentation of experiments performed on the prisoners. Experiments so horrific that they immediately get stamped as confidential.

Through interviews with doctor and military translator Anatoly Protasov, archive material and reconstructions, Andrey Iskanov creates an overwhelming and powerful story that takes us into the dark heart of Unit 731, force feeding us the gruesome experiments performed in the good name of science. Philosophy of a Knife is a story of human atrocities, but it is also the story of Unit 731 staff questioning their role in these merciless experiments.

Quick cuts, loud music, horrific images and Iskanov’s surrealism all come together in this 256minute documentation of the vileness of man. Philosophy of a Knife is an endurance test and one of the most extreme movies ever made. But never forget, THIS REALLY HAPPENED!

Newsletter #1 2016

We are busy finalizing what be the ultimate release of ANDREY ISKANOV'S PHILOSOPHY OF A KNIFE.

As you know this is an epic film of 249 minutes so subtitling, translation and prep takes painstaking time, but it will be worth the wait. The final artwork is locked, a stunning piece by Ryohei Miyaji, know for his old-school Japanese artwork. As you might already know, our Last Exit Entertainment release will be the first ever to feature versions of several scenes in colour amongst the many bonus features. We also have a great piece written especially for this release by genre journalist Magnus Blomdahl, and there will be loads of other goodies exclusive to this release to be confirmed the closer we get to setting a street date.

You'll hear it here first, Andrey Iskanov has decided to rename Visions of Suffering: Final Director's Cut to
ANDREY ISKANOV’S VISIONS OF SUFFERING : UROBOROS

Iskanov is slaving away shooting and locking the final scenes to this film that has ended up being a completely new film instead of the few additional scenes he intended. We’ve posted some images he’s sent us from the editing, and trust us when we say that each time Iskanov sends us scenes to watch, we’re seriously left with our jaws on the floor. VISIONS OF SUFFERING : UROBOROS is going to be spectacular and fantastic in every possible way.

Below are some images straight from the edit suite, to tease you with the greatness to come.

VISIONS OF SUFFERING - FINAL DIRECTORS CUT - PROMO #2

From the darkest, coldest corner of Khabarovsk, Russia comes the hottest film of the year – Andrey Iskanov’s redux of his 2006 classic VISIONS OF SUFFERING.

“I was never satisfied with the previous version of Visions of Suffering. The film always felt too long and I hated the CGI effects that I ended up using.”

Andrey Iskanov

VISIONS OF SUFFERING - FINAL DIRECTORS CUT is still the second film in the bizarre and surreal string of films that make up the HalluCsinoGeNnN series. But it is also a completely new film. Over 60% of the original footage has been removed and replaced with new scenes to re-shape the film, making it a completely new trip into the world of demons and nightmares. Re-constructed, with new actors, new music, new effects and new storylines, Iskanov brings it back to life with the intention of grasping the texture and atmosphere of another world, to catch a piece of this ever-elusive mysterious realm and present it to the viewer.

Synopsis:

After loosing his girlfriend, Sasha falls into despair. He suffers nightmares where he is wandering a dead otherworldly forest filled with fog and strange creatures. He disturbs a demonic shaman and the creatures start to move into our world through the telephones lines, filling them with static. A phone repairman comes to help with the faulty lines, but the old man is not what he seems; he’s a phone-wizard and knows more than the average man about dreams, nightmares and the creatures that inhabit the other world.

At nightfall the situation spirals out of control and becomes deadly. Sasha makes several fatal mistakes; daytime is smashed to smithereens and throws the world into an eternal night of horrors. The only person who can help Sasha now is Brandt, a cynical and bitter war veteran who after a gunshot wound to the frontal lobe, forever lost the ability to sleep. He’s dedicated his life to studying the secrets of the occult and demonology. Doomed never to dream he’s taught himself to hunt the demons.

On a rainy stormy night, at the intersection of worlds, Brandt steps up to battle the Dream Demon, a mysterious creature that generates nightmares and illusions.  Time is short, and even though Brandt knows there is no real way of defeating the Demon, he must take this mission.

“Given this opportunity to go back and re-create the intended atmosphere of the originally envisioned nightmare was something I had to do! I personally feel that this re-imaging of Visions of Suffering, make it a scarier, darker, colder and above all, a much more disturbing film that it was previously!”

         Andrey Iskanov

VISIONS OF SUFFERING – FINAL DIRECTORS CUT features a new soundtrack with artists Inconsolable Ghost, Dolorism, Alexander Quinn, Fredrik Klingwall, Zinc Room and Purple Eve. With this re-mastering, restoration, and re-creation, the film will also be presented in its correct widescreen ratio instead of the previous 4:3 ratio.

Last Exit Entertainment, who released Iskanov’s debut feature NAILS in a re-mastered/color corrected edition last year, will be releasing VISIONS OF SUFFERING – FINAL DIRECTORS CUT exclusively during 2015. It will be available through www.lastexitentertainment.com

Synopsis:
Since her childhood, Jessica (Lilly-Fleur Pointeaux), has suffered from tormenting nightmares. When her Grandmother passes away she reluctantly returns to her home village. The chilly relationship with her mother Catelyn (Catriona MacColl) and the fact that her Grandmogher is lying in vigil in the room next door doesn’t make things easier. During a dream Jessica meets her Grandmother who pleads for help and appears to be obsessed with the same looming tower that Jessica has been seeing in her dreams. To get deeper into her dreams and subconscious, Jessica drugs herself with chloroform with the intention to make it to the tower and expose it’s secrets. But the road there is guarded by the Cardinal, a menacing figure with a horsehead that won’t let anyone pass.

Romain Bassets debut film with amongst others Catriona MacColl from Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond, The House by the Cemetery and City of the Living Dead, and special effects by the French master David Scherer, is a visual orgy of metaphors, surreal horror and nightmarish visions. With a dazzling visual imagery and a dreamy narrative, Horsehead is an erotic, violent, frightening and poetic journey with an aura of Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, British Gothicism and French Avant-gardism.

Quotes:
” An explosion of colors and emotions” Twitchfilm
”Argento-esque expressionism” Scream Horror Magazine
” I highly recommend this gothic descent into terrifying nightmare.” Ain´t it cool news
